KENT, Ohio -- A week after posting the sixth-best score in school history, freshman
Sydney Beers won the all-around competition with a career-best 38.600 as Cornell gymnastics took third at the Kent State tri-meet on Friday evening. The Big Red scored a 191.400 to finish behind the host Golden Flashes as well as Rutgers the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center.
Beers finished atop the podium in the all-around and into the top five in Big Red history with her top individual placement being a sixth on vault (9.750), just .025 off teammate
Donna Webster's fourth-place finishing score. They were the lone top six individual finishers for Cornell on the night.
The Big Red had strong days on vault (season-best 48.500) and floor (48.300), with all five scoring vaults going 9.575 or better. Along with Webster and Beers,
Miranda Lund was tied for ninth with a 9.725 and
Calista Brady wasn't far behind with a 9.575. On floor, Beers (9.775) and Lund (9.750) joined
Kate Michelini (9.625) in posting scores that surpassed 9.6. Michelini also had the team's top score on bars (9.700) and Beers had that honor on beam (9.550).
Cornell will visit Ivy rival Penn for a dual meet on Sunday, Feb. 6 at 1 p.m.
