Women’s Track & Field Wraps Up Successful Southern Tier Invite

ITHACA, N.Y. – Competing in its second-straight home meet to open the indoor season at Barton Hall, the Cornell women's track and field team excelled, winning nine of the 10 events in which it had student-athletes entered at Saturday's Southern Tier Invite in Ithaca, N.Y.

Freshman Noelle Elkinton was the big winner on the day, posting the top marks in both the shot put (42-08.75/13.02m) and the weight throw (47-06.50/14.49m). Sophomore Ella Bormet finished just behind in second in both events, notching distances of 39-06.00 (12.04m) in the shot put and 47-00.75 (14.34m) in the weight throw.

Senior Leone Farquharson won the long jump for the second-consecutive meet, notching a winning mark of 20-00.50 (6.11m) and improving upon her season-best from the Greg Page Relays. One meet after breaking the Cornell school record in the 60-meter hurdles, senior Beatrice Juskeviciute found herself in the winners' circle in the event on Saturday with a time of 8.60. She led a Big Red event group that went 1-2-3 in the event, as freshman Aniyah Walters (9.00) finished second and sophomore Rachel Bonnet placed third (9.81).

Junior Olivia Rodriguez won the high jump with a clearance of 5-05.25 (1.66m) for one of her two top-two finishes on the day. She added a second-place finish in the 200-meter, crossing the finish line in 27.25 behind teammate junior Ama Boham, who won the event in 26.43.

Sophomore Lauren Jones (7.91) and junior Jessica Kolesar (8.16) finished first and second, respectively, in the 60-meter dash. The Big Red also took first in the 4x400-meter relay, as the team of sophomore Nyia Cummings, sophomore Delaney Benedict, junior Nia Robinson, and senior Kayleigh Furth clocked in at 4:04.19 to win the event.

Junior Victoria Atkinson was Cornell's final event winner of the day, clearing 12-04.50 (3.77m) to win the pole vault.

The Cornell women's track and field team will hit the road for the first time of the 2021-22 campaign when it travels to the Penn 10-Team Select on Jan. 15 in Staten Island, N.Y.
