ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell volleyball team lost in straight sets to Dartmouth on Saturday evening. Freshman
Eliza Konvicka tallied a team-high 12 kills with a .385 hitting percentage. Sophomore
Sammie Engel earned a .400 hitting percentage on six kills across 10 attacks, committing no errors.
Dartmouth and the Big Red were tied at all four points through 4-4. Cornell then pulled out to a 7-4 lead with three straight kills, two from junior
Sydney Moore. The Big Green responded with an. 8-3 run to take a 12-10 lead. Dartmouth held its lead through the remainder of set one to take the set 25-20
The Big Green opened set two with back-to-back kills. Dartmouth led 7-2 before the Big Red strung together a 4-1 run to close in on the Green 8-6. Cornell battled to tie the match at 15 after four consecutive points. The. run forced a Dartmouth timeout that the Big Green used to shift the momentum of the set and regain its lead. The Big Red forced a tie at 20 and 21, but could not pull out a lead. Dartmouth closed set two, 25-22.
Cornell opened set three 3-0, including an ace from sophomore
Sammie Engel, whose service caught the top of the next and fell over to secure the ace. The Big Red maintained its lead through point 7-6, but Dartmouth recorded back-to-back aces to take an 8-7 lead. The Big Red fought back to take the lead at 10-9 and again at 11-10. Cornell tallied a 5-1 run to lead by as many as five at 16-11. The Green crawled back to a one point deficit at 17-16 to force a Cornell timeout. Dartmouth held on to the tightly contested third set to close out 25-21.
Freshman
Joy Liu earned her first collegiate action, tallying four assists and three digs.
