NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The Cornell volleyball team finished a season sweep over Columbia with a 3-0 win on Saturday afternoon. The 3-0 win marks the first sweep fro the Big Red this season. The Cornell offense was led by
Sydney Moore, who notched 13 kills across 20 attacks, good for a .650 hitting percentage. Moore also tallied a team-high eight blocks in the contest. Moore's single match hitting percentage ranks ninth best in Cornell history.

Meghan Gaffigan ranked second on the team in kills (7) and blocks (5).
The Big Red fought hard to take set one. After opening with eight tie scores through 9-9, Columbia strung together a 7-0 run to take a 16-9 lead. Cornell fought back to bring up a five-point deficit, but the Lions extended their lead to seven again at 18-11. The Big Red then put on a 12-5 run to finally tie the match again at 23. Cornell closed the set on a 3-1 run to win in extra points, 26-24.
Set two opened on a 8-4 Cornell run, forcing a Columbia timeout. The Lions scrambled to tie the match at 15- and then continued on a 6-1 run to take a 21-16 lead. The Big Red then capitalized on three Lion errors and a kill by Gaffigan to trail by one at 21-20. Columbia seemed to be pulling away after tallying back-to-back points to go up 23-20, but a Big Red 4-0 run forced extra points. Cornell never gave up their lead, despite Columbia's efforts, taking set two, 27-25.
Columbia pulled out to a quick lead in set three, leading by as many as five at 10-5 and 11-6, but the Big Red tallied an 8-2 run to lead 14-13. The Lions found a lead again with a 3-0 run out of a Columbia timeout and held on until 24-24. when Cornell forced extra points for a third set. Errors on Columbia's end led to a 28-27 scoreline and a block by Moore and senior
Emma Worthington sealed the set, and the match, for the red.

The Cornell volleyball team remains on the road, next traveling to Yale for a match up on Friday, October 28, followed by a road match at Brown on Saturday, October 29. First serves are set to happen at 7 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively.
