ITHACA, N.Y. --
Lea Jih-Vieira answered Yale's first goal with six straight of her own and scored 11 times to lead Cornell to a 15-7 triumph over Yale on Saturday afternoon at Oxley Equestrian Center. The Big Red improved to 2-0 on the season with the victory.
Jih-Vieira tallied six times in the first, twice in the second and three times in the third chukker and never looked back.
Lara Chong and
Jasmine Umrigar each had a pair of goals to round out the Big Red's scoring.
Yale scored first, but Cornell found the goal seven consecutive times - the first six from Jih-Vieira - and never again trailed. They got within 10-6 early in the second half, but five consecutive from there put the game out of reach for the Big Red.
Cornell meets traditional Northeast Regional rival UConn on Friday, Oct. 21 at Oxley Equestrian Center before heading out to the Virginia Fall Tournament in Charlottesville, Va. from Oct. 26-30.
