ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's sailing team earned its seventh regatta title of the fall and placed in the top half of the Women's ACC Finals as part of another outstanding weekend as the fall season heads toward its conclusion. With two weeks remaining, the Big Red's seven regatta titles is already a record for a semester.
On a breezy, seasonal weekend on the water, the Big Red slotted eighth among 18 teams at the ACC Women's, as its 159 points was just shy of Harvard (153) and Stanford (151), but held off Bowdoin (160) and Georgetown (171). The A division entry tied for fourth among 18 teams, recording 70 points with seven top 10 finishes in nine races, including three top five and one race win.
Bridget Green sailed with crewmate
Amelia Neumann in A division, while B division included
Meredith Moran (races 1-8) and
Sophia Devling (race 9) as skipper and
Gabbi DelBello (races 1-4, 9) and
Lucija Ruzevic (races 5-8) posted four top 10 race finishes.
Sophia Pearce was an alternate for the weekend.
Hobart and William Smith's annual David Lee Arnoff Trophy was limited to one day after winds prevented safe sailing. Ten races were completed, and the Big Red won both A (43 points) and B (41 points) divisions, as the team's 84 points easily outdistanced runner-up Penn (106 points). A division, comprised of skippers
Lauren Ehnot (races 1-8) and Hayden Earl (races 9-10) and crew
Sophia Mulvania (races 1-8) and
Sophia Fogarty (races 9-10), posted top eight finishes in all 10 races among the 18 boats with one race win and three runner-up efforts. B division claimed five race victories and two other top three finishes on the strength of skippers
Sophia Peck (races 1-4) and
J.J. Smith (races 5-10) and crew Fogarty (races 1-4) and Rocco Cappetta (races 5-10).
With three weekends of racing remaining this fall, the Big Red will compete in the ACC Open Tournament on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 22-23, at Connecticut College in New London, Conn.
