LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's golf team shot the best 54 hole score in school history, finishing third at the Columbia Autumn Invitational that concluded on Sunday afternoon at the Lake Placid Golf Course. The Big Red shot a one-under-par 851 to tie with Dartmouth on the par 71 course.
The previous mark for 54 holes was the 857 recorded at the 857 Cornell Invitational during the 2017-18 season. The best three-round score at a course other than the Big Red's home Robert Trent Jones Golf Course was 870 at the 2005-06 James Madison Invitational.
The Big Red placed two individuals in the top five, as
Benjamin Choe grabbed fourth with an eight-under-par total of 205, six shots off the lead after shooting a 69 on Sunday. Lundmark also carded a 69 on getaway day, moving up four spots to fifth in the final standings with a three-under-par 210.
Samuel King finished 28th after turning in his card with a 75 on Sunday for a three-day total of 220, two shots and five spots ahead of teammate
Weston Warden. Warden shot a 70 in round three after carding a 71 in the first round.
Noah Schwartz (71-74-79-224),
Jackson Debusschere (74-77-76-227) and
Matt Simon (77-74-79-230) were 41st, 45th and 50th, respectively, in the 60-player field.
Cornell was tied for fourth after Saturday's play with an even par 568. The team scored a four-under-par 280 in round one thanks in large part to Lundmark's 67. That four-under-par score was still six shots behind Columbia's Nathan Han, who match an NCAA record with a 60 over the first 18 holes. Choe carded dual 68s and entered the final round in third and six-under-par, six shots behind Han and five behind Sacred Heart's Marcus Lim, who ended up as the event's medalist.
Cornell will close the fall semester at the Bucknell Invitational beginning on Sunday, Oct. 9 at the Bucknell Golf Club.
