ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's polo team will attempt to make an early statement when it heads to the Virginia Fall Tournament for a pair of contests beginning on Wednesday, Oct. 26. The Big Red will meet the host Cavaliers at 4 p.m. on opening day, then competes against SMU on Friday, Oct. 28 at 4 p.m.
As part of its 3-0 start under first-year head coach
Anthony Condo Jr., Cornell is averaging 17.3 goals per game and outscoring teams by 11 each time out.
Lea Jih-Vieira has a team-best 27 goals - eight more than its opponents have tallied this season.
Jasmine Umrigar has posted 12 goals in three starts.
Cornell and Virginia, longtime rivals, have played 46 times since 2006 with the Cavaliers holding a 25-21 advantage. UVa has won seven in a row entering the week, with the Big Red's last victory coming in November 2017, a 21-14 Cornell win. The Big Red leads the series against SMU 3-0 since 2006, including a 26-2 triumph at last fall's Bill Field Invitational.
Virginia's roster includes last season's Big Red captain,
Rachel Booth. The team's leading scorer a year ago, Booth helped Cornell to a 10-10 finish, the program's 15th consecutive campaign with at least 10 wins.
