SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's polo team kicked off the 2022-23 season and the Anthony Condo Jr. era with an 18-1 win over Skidmore on Sunday afternoon at Bloomfield Arena. The Big Red avenged last season's 24-2 road defeat to the Thoroughbreds.
Jasmine Umrigar scored five first half goals,
Lea Jih-Vieira notched four and
Sophie Kofsky posted three to lead the Big Red.
Lara Chong had two scores and
Ava Ramachandran netted one with three pony goals making up the difference.
The Big Red led 5-0 after the first and 10-0 at halftime as Umrigar tallied five times after Kofsky got Cornell on the board. The lead grew to 14-0 before Skidmore tallied, but the Big Red shut out the home team in the final chukker.
Cornell returns to action when it welcomes Cal Poly to Oxley Equestrian Center on Friday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m.
