PHILADELPHIA, PA. -- The Cornell volleyball team lost to Penn in a five-set battle on Saturday, October 8. Freshman
Eliza Konvicka tallied a career-high 20 kills in the outing. Junior
Sydney Moore also notched a new career-high 15 kills.
Cornell fell to an 11-6 deficit in set one, but but together a 5-0 run powered by two
Jordan Walker kills to tie the set at 11. Back-and-fourth play continued through set one bringing both team to a tied 25-25. Cornell closed set one on a 3-1 run in part due to efforts from Konvicka, who tallied a kill and block assist in the run, to win 28-26.
Set two was tied up to point seven, when Penn notched back-to-back points to take a lead the Quaker's did not give up. Penn went on to win set two, 25-18.
The Big Red dominated set three. Penn scored the first lead of the set, but that was the only lead the quakers would hold all set. Cornell tallied four straight points to take a 4-1 lead over the Quakers, one they would maintain throughout the set to win, 25-17.
Penn won a tightly contested third set. The Quakers battled to tie the set at 22 and went on to bring about a fifth set, winning 25-23.
Set five included six tied scores up through 11-11, but the Quakers edged the Big Red to take the set 15-12, and the match 3-2.

Following this weekend, the Big Red return home for a matchup against Harvard at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 14 and Dartmouth at 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 15. Both matches will be played at Newman Arena at Bartels Hall. Attendance to both matches are free, and for those at home the matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
