ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell sailing team narrowly missed out on qualifying for the ACC Open Dinghy finals while grabbing yet another top 10 finish at the Stu Nelson Women's this past weekend.
Cornell placed 12th in the ACC Open, ending the two-day regatta with 307 points - just 10 out of the final qualifying spot for the finals. B division with
Meredith Moran as skipper and
Amelia Neumann (races 1-14) and
Gabbi DelBello (race 15) took 10th overall, grabbing eight top 10 finishes and a pair of race runner-up spots. A division was 13th with
Bridget Green (races 1-2, 7-15) and Hayden Earl (races 3-6) skippering and DelBello (races 1-13), Rocco Cappetta (race 14) and Neumann (race 15) making up the crew. Six top 10 finishes came from that collective, including back-to-back second- and third-place efforts on Sunday.
The Big Red added a top 10 finish at the Stu Nelson at Central Connecticut, with its 261 points just two shy of finishing in the top-half of the standings. It was B division with
Sophia Devling and
Sophia Pearce that led the way, placing fourth with eight top five race finishes in 12 starts. Included was a race win and four top three efforts. A division was marked by
J.J. Smith and
Sophia Mulvania, with C division comprised of
Sophia Peck with
Clara Hewson and
Lucija Ruzevic.
Headlining a three-event upcoming weekend is the Women's ACC Finals at Kings Points, with split teams also heading to compete for the Nevins Trophy at Navy and Hobart and William Smith's David Lee Arnoff Troophy.
