Having now spent 17 seasons directing the Cornell women's hockey program, Doug Derraugh has brought the Big Red to their place among the nation’s elite. Taking a program that won just four games in the season prior to his arrival, Derraugh guided the Big Red to the national title game in his fifth season and back-to-back-to-back NCAA Frozen Four appearances in 2010, 2011 and 2012, completely turning around the culture of the women’s hockey program at Cornell. Derraugh once again guided the Big Red to Frozen Four in 2019. He became the first Everett Family Head Coach of Women’s Ice Hockey when the position was endowed in December 2020.

Cornell Women's Hockey Game Notes

PUCK DROP
• The No. 10-ranked Cornell women's hockey team hits the road this weekend to resume ECAC Hockey action against Ivy-League counterparts Yale and Brown. The Big Red look to bounce back into the winning column following a winless three game stretch.

LYNAH FAITHFUL
• Cornell has excelled at playing in front of the fans at Lynah Rink, who are deemed the Lynah Faithful, over the last 12-plus seasons. The Big Red have had at least a .500 win percentage at home in 11 of the past 12-plus seasons of competition, posting an overall record of 160-39-16 in that span.

• Since the 2009-10 season, Cornell's .781 win percentage on home ice ranks as the third-highest by a Division I program in that span. The Big Red trail perennial powers Wisconsin and Minnesota.

• The Big Red's .781 win percentage is the highest by a current ECAC program, with the closest program to Cornell being Clarkson, who ranks fourth nationally with its .775 win percentage (180-43-26).

BIG RED ON THE ROAD
• Cornell split their previous road stand after winning the first game in comeback fashion against Dartmouth but then dropping the next game at Harvard, putting the Big Red at 2-2 (.500) away from Lynah Rink this season.

GUILDAY, DERRAUGH IN RIVALRY SERIES
• Sophomore defenseman Rory Guilday and Doug Derraugh '91, the Everett Family Head Coach of Women's Hockey, faced off each other earlier this month in the Rivalry Series between the Canadian and American Women's National Teams.

• Guilday, who appeared with Team USA in September at the IIHF Women's World Championships in Denmark, was one of six collegiate players on Team USA in this series. Guilday was joined by a handful of players from the collegiate ranks, which included Ohio State's Gabby Rosenthal and Riley Brengman, Minnesota State's Kelsey King, Northeastern's Maureen Murphy, and Clarkson's Haley Winn.

• Derraugh, was named to the Canadian Women's National Team coaching staff on Oct. 19, and held the honor of being behind the bench for Team Canada as they played against Team USA in Kelowna, British Columbia and in Seattle at Climate Pledge Arena, home of the NHL's Seattle Kraken.

ECAC PRESEASON POLL
• During ECAC's annual media day, Cornell was picked to finish sixth in the preseason poll, the conference announced Sept. 14.

• Colgate was selected the preseason favorite after receiving six of the 11 possible first-place votes. The Raiders finished with a conference-best 115 points.

• Yale, who received three first-place votes, was picked second with 98 points, and Princeton ended with 97 points and one first-place selection. Quinnipiac had the fourth-most points (92 points), while Clarkson received the last first-place vote, finishing with 86 points, good for fifth.

• Cornell (73 points), Harvard (67), St. Lawrence (60), Brown (33), RPI (30), Dartmouth (27), and Union (14) rounded out the preseason voting.

GUILDAY NAMED TO ECAC PRESEASON TEAM
• Sophomore Rory Guilday was one of two defensemen named to the All-ECAC Hockey preseason team during the conference's annual media day on Sept. 14.

• Guilday had a strong freshman year for the Big Red last season. In 29 games, the 5-foot-11 defender logged 18 points (seven goals, 11 assists) while blocking 74 shots, which was second on the team, trailing Ashley Messier's team-high 78 blocks.

REPRESENTING ECAC WELL
• After opening the season ranked No. 12 team in the DCU/USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls, Cornell has remained among the top 15 in all seven polls this year.

• In the most recent iteration, Cornell stayed put in the ranking to No. 9 in the DCU/USCHO.com poll, while also remaining steady at No. 9 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll.

• Cornell is currently one of six ECAC Hockey programs ranked among the top 15 programs in both the DCU/USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls. Harvard and St. Lawrence are ECAC programs currently receiving votes in both polls.

ABOUT YALE
• #3 Yale has gotten off to a blazing 8-0-0 start to the season as they look to continue their undefeated ways.

Lynah Rink
The Cornell Big Red women's ice hockey team competes against Clarkson on Friday, Jan. 31, 2020 in Lynah Rink in Ithaca, NY.

If you’ve never been to a Big Red hockey game at Cornell’s James Lynah Rink, there are quite a few things you’ve never experienced. You’ve never camped out in line just to get season tickets and ensure your spot as one of the raucous and devoted "Lynah Faithful." But most importantly, if you’ve never been to Lynah, you’ve never really experienced all the best that college hockey has to offer.

Lynah Rink, which turned 65 years old in 2022, is the home of Big Red hockey. The rink, which was dedicated April 6, 1957, was named in honor of the late James Lynah (class of 1905), director of athletics at Cornell from 1935-43.
