Gymnastics Secures Top Meet Scores On Vault, Floor At Big Red Invite

ITHACA,, N.Y. -- Cornell posted the meet's top score on vault and floor in taking second at the Big Red Invitational on Sunday afternoon at Newman Arena. Victoria DeMeo (beam), Calista Brady (floor) and Sydney Beers (all-around) each earned individual wins as Cornell finished with a 191.600.

Brady posted a 9.900 on floor to tie Brockport's Alexis Castellaneta at the top of the standings, while Kate Michelini (9.825) took third. Brady's mark was a career high and tied for the fifth-highest event score in school history. Three other Big Red gymnasts tied for fourth with 9.775s - Beers, Miranda Lund and Melanie Stone.

With her 38.800, Beers moved into fourth on the top 10 list with a career-best total. DeMeo's score on beam was also a career high and was just .025 out of a top 10 score. Eva Phair tied for second on the event with a 9.800.

The Big Red won vault thanks to four gymnasts with scores in the top three - Amy Krueger in second (9.700) and Beers, Brady and Regina Walton (9.675) tied for third. Melanie Stone, was fifth on bars to lead the team with a 9.675. Beers finished seventh with a 9.600 as the only other Cornell gymnast in the top 15.

Cornell returns to action when Springfield visits Newman Arena on Sunday, Feb. 20 at 11 a.m.
