CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Cornell women's swimming and diving team kicked off the 2022 Ivy League Championships on Wednesday night at Harvard's Blodgett Pool with a pair of relays that were laden with Big Red student-athletes who got their first taste of championship action.

The Big Red got things started with the 200 medley relay, as junior Aviva Muñoz teamed up with first-time Ivy Championship swimmers freshman Sophia Tsai and sophomores Anna Gruvberger and Priscilla Wongso to clock a time of 1:43.17 and finish seventh in the event.

Cornell's 800 freestyle relay was built from a similar mold, as freshman Alex Syrkin, sophomore Angelica Sih, and freshman Schuyler DuPont joined junior Melissa Parker to put together the fifth-fastest time in the Cornell record books (7:27.74).

Through the first day of competition, Cornell sits in eighth place with 90 points, just two points back of seventh-place Dartmouth (92) and eight points back of Brown (98) and Columbia (98), who are tied for fifth. Harvard holds an early lead with 118 points.

The second day of the 2022 Ivy League Championships will get underway tomorrow at 11 a.m. for preliminary rounds of multiple events. Tomorrow's finals session will begin at 6 p.m.
