CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Cornell women's swimming and diving team posted a strong showing on the third day of the 2022 Ivy League Championships on Friday at Harvard's Blodgett Pool, qualifying a pair of divers to the A Final, qualifying a handful of swimmers to B Finals, and securing multiple Big Red all-time top-10 marks.
Divers Elise Jendritz and Demetra Williams will both find themselves in tomorrow's 3-meter diving final after impressive performances in prelims on Friday. Jendritz accrued the fourth-highest point total of 282.90 points in prelims, while Williams wracked up 271.35 points. Not only was Williams' mark good for sixth in prelims, but it improves her to third all-time in Cornell history.
Melissa Parker turned in the Big Red's top swimming performance, making the B Final of the 200 freestyle and finishing 12th overall in 1:50.01. Alex Syrkin (1:52.43) and Schuyler DuPont (1:52.60) made the C Final of the event, finishing 20th and 22nd, respectively.
Amy Wu, Aviva Muñoz, and Gillian Caverly all qualified for the B Final of their individual events as well. Wu placed 16th overall in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.76, while Muñoz and Caverly finished one after another in the B Final of the 100 backstroke in 15th and 16th, respectively. The pair's times from prelims both secured their spots in the Big Red record books, with Muñoz notching the fifth-fastest time in Cornell history (56.02) and Caverly posting the 10th-fastest time (56.58). Allie Danko swam well in the 1000 freestyle, finishing 15th overall in 10:15.13.
Three additional Big Red swimmers cracked Cornell's all-time top-10 list on Friday. Olivia Sutter (4:22.75) and Marie Williams (4:26.58) both made the C Final of the 400 IM, finishing 20th and 21st, respectively, with the seventh and 10th-fastest times in school history. Anna Gruvberger clocked the 10th-fastest time at Cornell to date in the 100 butterfly during prelims (55.65), a mark which made the cut for the C Final where she ultimately placed 24th.
With one day of competition remaining, the Big Red sits in eighth place with 340 points.
