Women's Gymnastics Ready For Challenges Ahead At Ivy Classic

2/24/2022 11:00:00 AM

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's gymnastics team heads to the 2022 Ivy Classic looking for a breakout performance when the Big Red heads to Yale's John J. Lee Amphitheater on Sunday, Feb. 27 at 1 p.m. The meet will be broadcast on ESPN+.

Coming off a Senior Day win over Springfield this past Sunday, the Big Red will be tested against a loaded field. The Big Red is eyeing its first Ivy Classic crown since 2017, its eighth with Melanie Hall on staff and the first with her as head coach. Senior Donna Webster is the team's lone returning Ivy Classic champion, winning vault in 2019. Her 9.775 at the Kent State meet in late January stands as the top score this season for the Big Red despite missing the last three meets due to injury.

The Big Red ranks 57th nationally with a 190.960 national qualifying score, just below Brown (190.985) in 56th. It will need a season-best afternoon to surpass Penn (194.500) and Yale (193.080), both of whom rank in the top 50 nationally.

Miranda Lund ranks fourth among Ivy teams on floor (9.690) and Sydney Beers has top eight averages in the all-around (third, 38.185) as well as beam (sixth, 9.645) and vault (seventh, 9.645) entering the weekend meet.
