ITHACA, N.Y. -- After an even start, the Kentucky women's polo team pulled away from Cornell over the final three chukkers and rolled to a 26-7 win on Friday evening at the Oxley Equestrian Center. The Big Red fell to 8-7 on the season and had its three-game win streak snapped in the process.
Rachel Booth had a team-best four goals in the first half, with
Lea Jih-Vieira adding three and
Jasmine Umrigar and
Sophie Kofsky each netting one.
Consecutive goals by Booth put the Big Red in the lead at 2-1 and Umrigar made it 3-2 not long after, but Kentucky reeled off six straight and never trailed the rest of the way. The Wildcats led 12-5 at halftime and 19-6 after three in rolling to its first win over the Big Red since squeezing off a 7-6 triumph in Lexington on Feb. 24, 2019.
The Big Red will play a pair of contests in preparation for the USPA Northeast Regionals when visits Garrison Forest on Saturday, March 5 at 2 p.m., followed by facing the Maryland Polo Club on Sunday, March 6 at 11 a.m.
