PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Cornell matched its season-high team score of 191.900 on Sunday afternoon in a dual meet defeat at the hands of Penn at the Palestra. The dual meet was held simultaneously with the Big Red wrestling team, which won the Ivy League title with a 20-12 win over the Quakers on the Palestra floor.
The Big Red opened on bars with
Kate Michelini leading the way with a 9.725, good enough for a third-place tie and a spot on the podium to get Cornell started. The Big Red rotated to vault where
Regina Walton's turn scored 9.750 and
Calista Brady's attempt got a 9.725. Walton tied for second, while Brady took fourth.
Cornell closed within a point in the third rotation after a 48.050 on floor with
Sydney Beers posting a 9.700, tied for fifth. She also was second in the all-around with a 38.525 - just .075 off her career-best day. The visitors closed on beam with a 47.900, topping Penn's 47.350 on the apparatus. Michelini scored a 9.725, the meet's third-best score of the afternoon.
The Big Red returns home for a quad meet against Brockport, Cortland and Ithaca on Sunday, Feb. 13 at 1 p.m. at Bartels Hall. The meet will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
