ITHACA, N.Y. – The women's tennis team returns home in search of its first dual victory of the season when it takes on Colgate at noon Saturday at Reis Tennis Center.
Cornell (0-7) returns to the Empire State following a pair of competitive 4-2 losses against Big Ten programs last weekend. All of the Big Red's points came via singles victories, with freshman
Lan Mi victorious twice to improve to 5-1 from the #1 position. Sophomore
Lauren Stein had the other point in Saturday's match against Indiana from the #4 position, then sophomore
Jenny Wong had the second point Sunday against Illinois with a straight-set win at #6.
Colgate is 5-3 and enters Saturday on a four-match winning streak, most recently with a 8-1 victory over Rochester using the Yellowjackets' Division III scoring format. Two of the Raiders' other wins have come against Division II opponents (Daemen and Le Moyne), while the Division I victories were against Niagara and Binghamton.
Saturday's match will mark the 16th all-time between the regional rivals, with the Big Red having won the 15 previous tilts. It's the first meeting between the programs since March 22, 2017, when Cornell came away with a 6-1 victory at Reis.
