ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell baseball team will face Ivy League competition and play at Hoy Field for the first time since 2019 with a three-game series against Harvard this weekend. With inclement weather forecast for the latter part of the weekend, the teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader starting at 11:30 a.m. Friday before a series finale slated for noon Saturday.
Cornell (3-8) is coming off an invigorating 7-4 victory over Richmond on Sunday, rallying for five runs in the ninth inning to avoid being swept by the hosts in a three-game series. With the bases loaded and one out, freshman
Jakobi Davis laced a two-run double to right-center to tie the game, then junior
Wils Guy followed with a line-drive single to right field to drive in two more runs and give the Big Red its first lead of the day. Senior starter
Luke Yacinich completed seven innings for the first time in his collegiate career, and freshman
Braden Mack earned the victory with two quiet innings of relief.
Junior
Joe Hollerbach continues to pace the offense with the team lead in batting average (.435), doubles (five), home runs (three) and slugging percentage (.783). Junior
Ryan Ross has six extra-base hits among his seven knocks this season to boast a .760 slugging percentage, and Guy leads the way with four stolen bases and 10 walks.
On the mound, junior
Spencer Edwards is scheduled to start the first game of the series on Friday, and Yacinich is penciled in to start the series finale on Saturday. The Big Red's starter for the middle game will be determined after the completion of Friday's first game.
Harvard (8-7) arrives in Ithaca on the heels of an eight-game road trip to California that included a four-game split at Cal Poly, a midweek win over Fresno State, then one win among three games at UCLA. The 5-0 win over the Bruins last Saturday featured six shutout innings of one-hit ball from junior Tim Williamson, who was subsequently named the Ivy League Pitcher of the Week.
Williamson (LHP, 2-1, 4.05) is slated to open the series against the Big Red, while Sean Matson (RHP, 1-1, 5.27) is penciled in to toe the rubber in Friday's night cap. Harvard's Saturday starter is to be announced. Chris Snopek (.386) amd Logan Bravo (.345) have paced the offense so far, and George Cooper (.246) has a team-high three home runs.
