ITHACA, N.Y. — The golf team's second of four spring tournaments brings the squad back to the Mid-Atlantic this weekend for The Battle at Rum Pointe, hosted by Iona at Rum Pointe Seaside Links in Berlin, Md. The 36-hole event will feature a 9 a.m. shotgun start on both Saturday and Sunday.
The Big Red is coming off a tie for fifth place at The Carpetbagger Classic last weekend, which was held at Worthington Manor Golf Club in Frederick, Md. Juniors
Martin Gutierrez and
Josh Lundmark led the Cornell charge with matching 12th-place finishes in the individual portion of the tournament. It was Gutierrez's highest collegiate individual finish, and it was the fourth time in six events this season that Lundmark placed in the top 20. Lundark and classmate

This year's field at The Battle at Rum Pointe includes 22 teams from 21 schools. Cornell is joined by Ivy League brethren Harvard and Dartmouth, and others scheduled to compete come from Binghamton, Bucknell, Colgate, Fairfield, Hofstra, Holy Cross, Iona, Lafayette, Manhattan, Monmouth, Mount St. Mary's, Rhode Island, Rider, Robert Morris, Sacred Heart, Saint Peter's, Siena and Wagner. Host Iona is also scheduled to enter a 'B' team.
Cornell will be competing in The Battle at Rum Pointe for the first time. Bucknell is the defending champion after carding a team score of 588 last season to finish atop the nine-team field, three clear of second-place Youngstown State. Rum Pointe Seaside Links typically plays to a par of 72, stretching to 7,001 yards with a USGA rating of 72.6 and 122 slope.
