UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Cornell gymnastics team tested itself against three of the top 30 teams in the country on Saturday evening at Penn State's Rec Hall, finishing with a 190.000 to take fourth. The Big Red had two top 10 placers as it continues to roll into form for the upcoming championship season.
Regina Walton was the team's top individual finisher against the high-level field, placing seventh on beam with a strong 9.800.
Sydney Beers was third in the all-around with a 38.725, just .075 off her career high.
A strong day on beam (48.425) saw three gymnasts finish at 9.7 or better, including Walton's lone 9.8 on the day. That team score was enough to top Penn State (48.225) on the apparatus.
Beers posted the team's top scored on vault (9.775) and floor (9.700) and was second on bars (9.525) and beam (9.725). Cornell was within striking distance of a season-best score, but had to count two falls on bars in the final rotation, still reaching a 190.000.
Denver won with a 197.075, followed by the host Nittany Lions (195.525) and Southern Utah (194.425).
Cornell will compete in its final dual meet of 2022 when it heads to West Chester on Friday, March 11 at 7 p.m.
