Big Fourth Quarter Helps Women's Lax Pull Away From Colgate, 17-6

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Cornell scored the game's final eight goals, including seven unanswered in the fourth, to pull away from Colgate for a 17-6 triumph on Wednesday evening at Schoellkopf Field. The Big Red improved to 3-2 on the season, while the Raiders fell to 1-5.

Kylie Gelabert had a breakout game for the Big Red offensively, scoring her first five college points (four goals, one assist) to pace 10 goal scorers for the Big Red. Josie Vogel also scored four times, while Amanda Cramer (two goals, one assist) and Sophie Alois (two assists) also had multi-point games. Junior Annie Thomas had three draw controls and posted two of the Big Red's 11 caused turnovers. Katie McGahan continued her hot start in goal, making eight saves while picking up her 21st career victory in the cage.

Devon Maillet scored two goals, Kyra Lucey posted two assists and Catie Lang notched a goal and an assist. Grace Bowers won six draw controls and both Maillet and Cara O'Reilly each had four as the Raiders won the battle at the draw circle 15-11.

Cornell out-shot the Raiders 43-17 and had a slight edge in ground balls, 20-16.

The Big Red scored the game's first three goals and never trailed after Amanda Cramer scored her 10th goal of the year just 63 seconds in. It was 5-1 late in the first before the Raiders scored three of the next four to get the visitors back within 6-4 midway through the second quarter.

The Raiders got within 9-6 when Bowers found the back of the net with 8:32 left in the third, but Genevieve DeWinter's free position score five minutes later started the game-ending 8-0 run, triggering the running clock with two minutes remaining.

Besides Gelabert's first goal, Bailey Mutch also registered her first score in a Cornell uniform late in the contest.
