VESTAL, N.Y. -- Binghamton scored three runs in the third to jump on Cornell and closed out the midweek victory with a 5-3 win on Tuesday evening at the Bearcats Baseball Complex. The Big Red fell to 7-15, while Binghamton improved to 8-19.
Binghamton staked itself to a 3-0 lead in the third inning with the big blow coming on a two-run double by Evan Sullivan, who later homered in the sixth. Nick Roselli also went yard for the Bearcats.
Cornell's six pitchers allowed just five hits on the day, but a pair of solo shots in the sixth gave the home team the insurance runs it needed. Keith Cushing and
William Gilbert both needed just 24 pitches to retire six batters and none of the Big Red arms allowed more than two hits.
Cornell had seven hits, including four during the Big Red's two-run eighth inning.
Joe Hollerbach's RBI single drove in the first run of the inning after
Austin Flematti tripled to lead off the inning.
Max Jensen also had a pair of hits in the loss, going 2-for-4.
The Big Red will visit Penn for a three-game Ivy League set beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 16 at 11:30 a.m.
