Alafia Ayeni of the Cornell men's tennis team was chosen as one of 49 at-large selections to compete in singles, while he will pair with junior
Vladislav Melnic as the top ranked Ivy League doubles team for an automatic bid at the 2022 NCAA Men's Tennis Championships. In all, 64 singles and 32 doubles teams have qualified individually to compete for national titles.
Ayeni, ranked No. 45 in the most recent ITA Tennis Rankings, sports an 19-6 overall record in singles with a 5-1 mark in Ivy League competition while playing exclusively at No. 1. The senior has also teamed with Melnic at No. 1 in doubles and has posted an 18-3 mark with a perfect 5-0 record in league play and is 14-2 in dual meet competition.
The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 23-28 at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Champaign, Ill. All matches shall be the best-of-three sets. No-ad scoring and a 7-point tiebreaker (first to seven points, must win by two points) at six-games-all will be used for all matches. In doubles, a 10-point match tiebreaker will be played in lieu of a third set.
