ITHACA, N.Y. -- After guiding the Cornell women's tennis team to a turnaround season as the program's interim head coach,
Katie Zordani has been elevated to the Carl H. Meinig '31 Head Coach.
Zordani spent the 2021-22 season as the interim head coach, leading the Big Red to its most wins overall (8-12) and in Ivy League play (3-4) since 2017. The eight victories matched the total from 2019-present and the three conference wins tripled the total from 2018-21 (1-13). Among the wins were triumphs over No. 72 Buffalo at home and No. 43 Columbia on the road. Freshman
Lan Mi was a first-team All-Ivy League pick in singles, while sophomores
Lauren Stein and
Jenny Wong made first-team doubles.
She joined the Big Red coaching staff in 2018, spending three seasons as an assistant before being elevated to interim head coach. The team posted a 7-6 home record in duals over that span, with
Valerie Ho earning All-Ivy League honors in 2018. Zordani was instrumental in helping the Big Red through the pandemic, including a pandemic-shortened 2019-20 campaign and the cancellation of the 2020-21 season.
Zordani came to the Big Red after a season as a volunteer assistant coach at her alma mater, Iowa. A four-year member of the Academic All-Big 10 team, she posted a 36-49 record in dual singles and 34-40 in dual doubles. She was also presented the team's Grinder Award (2011-12), Iron Hawk Award (2013-14), and Leadership and Citizen Award (2014-15).
