ITHACA, N.Y. -- Head coach Lior Lavie got his collegiate coaching career off to a rousing start with a pair of regatta wins on opening weekend, taking home trophies from both the Kings Point Women's and Open Invite this past weekend. The Big Red topped a nine-team field in the Open Invite and a seven-team in the women's regatta.

On the women's side, Cornell won both A and B division, with its 49 points holding off Penn (64) and Hobart and William Smith (109). Teams were limited to eight races apiece due to tough conditions on Long Island Sound, but when they were on the water, Cornell controlled. A division won four of its eight races, including the final three of the weekend with Meredith Moran and Amelia Neumann teaming together. Sophia Devling skippered B divison with Sophia Mulvania (races 1-7) and Sophia Fogarty (race 8) as crew en route ot three top three finishes in a consistent effort throughout the weekend.

Cornell took over after three rotations and cruised to the open win with 76 points over seven weekend races, well in front of SUNY Maritime (105) and Kings Point (106). Bridget Green and Gabbi DelBello raced to a comfortable win in A division, while Hayden Earl and Sophia Pearce were second among B division groupings. Green and DelBello were especially dominant, winning four of seven starts, while Pearce and Earl shook off some early struggles and took fourth, third and third in the final three races, including finishing ahead of its A division teammates in the weekend's last race.

Cornell will have three racers at next weekend's singlehanded conference championship, the Faye Bennett Laser Radial at Navy. It will also serve as host to the Jack Boehringer '52 Memorial Regatta out of the Merrill Family Sailing Center on the Cayuga Lake Inlet.
