ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell volleyball team (2-8, 1-1 Ivy League) fell to Ivy League preseason favorite Brown, 3-0, on Friday, September 30 in Newman Arena at Bartels Hall. The Cornell attack was lead by
Joanna Chang, who had a team-high 13 kills and
Sydney Moore who notched a team-best .545 hitting percentage with 7 kills across 11 attacks, committing just one error.
Brown started set one on with a quick two points on two Cornell errors. The Bears maintained at least a two point lead throughout the set. Cornell called timeout at 17-11 after a 3-0 run, and responded with a 3-0 run of its own own after break. Brown responded with a 6-2 stretch, forcing a second Cornell timeout at 23-16. The Bears held on to the momentum though, earning a 25-16 win in set one.
Set two opened with plenty of back-and-forth action, with both teams tallying a seven tie scores up to 10-10, before the Bears went on a 4-0 run to force a Big Red timeout. Brown outscored. Cornell 11-10 out of the. timeout to. take set two, 25-20.
Set three opened with a 4-0 Brown run, but the Big Red battled back with a 3-1 run to trail 5-3. The Bears then went on a 5-2 run to lead 10-5 and force a Cornell timeout. The Big Red tallied a 3-1 run out of the break, capitalizing on two Brown errors. Cornell continued to cut into the lead to trail buy three at 14-11, but the Bears never gave up their lead, taking set three, 25-20.
