Big Red Women's Ice Hockey Gears Up For ECAC Hockey Opening Weekend

TROY, N.Y. -  The Cornell women's ice hockey will open up ECAC Hockey competition when they travel to upstate New York rivals RPI and Union for a weekend series.

Mercyhurst Rewind
Game One
The Cornell women's ice hockey team tied the opening game of a back-to-back with Mercyhurst, 3-3, on Friday night at Mercyhurst Ice Center. Cornell moved to 3-0-1 on the year while the the Lakers shifted to 3-5-1.

Izzy Daniel scored a pair of goals, along with Georgia Schiff's game-opening tally. Freshman goaltender Annelies Bergman stopped 17 Laker shots from reaching the back of the net.

Game Two
The Cornell women's ice hockey team earned a 3-1 victory over Mercyhurst on Saturday evening from Mercyhurst Ice Center. The Big Red remain undefeated as they move to 4-0-1, while the Lakers drop to 3-6-1.

ECAC Hockey Forward of the Week Daniel (two) and Kaitlin Jockims scored Big Red goals on the night. Lily DelianedisGrace DwyerKarel Prefontaine, and Katie Chan registered helpers in the contest.

The Series
Cornell currently leads the all-time series against Union, 34-1-3. The Cornellians are on a five-game winning-streak against the Garnet Chargers, and have taken eight of the last 10.

The Big Red leads the series with RPI 30-8. Cornell currently holds a seven game win-streak and have won nine out of the previous 10 matchups.

Opponents Breakdown
Union will enter the night with a 4-5-1 record. The Union Garnet Chargers are currently 3-1 at home after opening the season with a sweep against Holy Cross, and a victory over Robert Morris.

Riley Walsh  (11- 6g, 5a), Emily King (eight- 2g, 6a), Maddie Leaney (seven- 4g, 3a), and Kendal Davidson (seven- 1g, 6a) are at the top of the team's leader board in points. Sophie Matsoukas has started seven games between the pipes, registering 180 saves and a .900 save percentage.

RPI will enter the weekend with an impressive 6-1-3 record, taking out opponents from the likes of Stonehill, Bemidji State, and Syracuse along the way. The Engineers have yet to take a loss on their home ice.

Ellie Kaiser (nine- 6g, 3a), Nyah Philip (eight - 5g, 3a), Andrea Trynkova (seven - 3g, 4a), and Georgia Bailey (seven assists) are at the top of the team's leader board in points. Amanda Rampado has started eight games in net for the Engineers, registering 209 saves and a .937 save percentage.

Opening Week, Sharing The Wealth
The Big Red showed to be unselfish with the puck in the weekend opener against Penn State. Cornell accumulated 13 assists and featured seven different goal scorers over the course of the two games.

Chan is tied for the team lead in goals with four. Daniel is the front runners as far as points are concerned, with nine (2g, 7a). Prefontaine and Gabbie Rud are second on the squad in assists, both having served four this season.

Cornell had nine different goal scorers this previous week. Included in the group of scorers are Chan, Delianedis, Daniel, Mckenna Van GelderJockimsClaudia YuSchiffRory Guilday, and Avi Adam.

Bergmann was the net minder in both of Cornell's matchups against Penn State. The freshman goaltender racked up 32 saves, and holds a .914 save percentage.

Fraser protected the net against Syracuse, earning 12 saves and a shutout victory over the Orange.

Daniel, 100th Career Point
Daniel exploded for a six-point weekend against Penn State, registering her points on one goal and five assists. Daniel eclipsed her 100th-career point in the process, now having 112.

Daniel, Back-To-Back ECAC Hockey Forward of The Week
Senior forward Daniel earned her second consecutive ECAC Hockey Forward of the Week. Daniel registered seven points this week against Syracuse and Mercyhurst, coming on five goals and two assists.

Daniel currently leads the Big Red in the points, goals, and assists categories with 13 (6g, 7a).
 

Follow The Action
Cornell women's ice hockey will visit Union and RPI this weekend for a weekend ECAC Hockey series. Puck drop is slated for 6:00 p.m. on Friday, and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Game action will be broadcast on ESPN+.
