Ryndin, Zhao Advance to ITA Super Regionals, Zhao/Wong Advance in Doubles

Box Score NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Cornell women's tennis sends two on in singles and one doubles team to the 2023 ITA Super Regionals held in Toledo, Ohio, on October 27-28. Michelle Ryndin and Victoria Zhao advanced in the singles division while Zhao and Jenny Wong teamed up to advance in the doubles division.

Wong and Zhao received a first-round bye in the doubles bracket. Their first competitions was against Middison Ricardo and Isabel Cabrerizo of Drexel. The Big Red advanced to round of 16 with the 8-3 win. Wong and Zhao won their next two matches by the same score, defeating Bennetto Leena and Neha Velega of Princeton in the round of 16, and Sandra Dzhambazov and Sofia Pinedo of NJIT in the quarterfinals to advance to the Super Regionals.

In the singles bracket, Ryndin won her first match in three sets, taking down Lea Forste-Dinell of Hostra, 6-4, 5-7, 10-6. She advanced through the round of 32 and round of 16, winning both matches in straight sets. She faced Yana Gurevich of Rutgers in a highly contested three-set match at 6-1, 4-6, 11-9 to advance to the Super Regionals. Zhao had a first-round bye, and faced Pinedo in the round of 32 for her first action. Zhao was victorious, 6-0, 6-4. She continued her strong performance, defeating all of her opponents in straight sets to advance to the Super Regionals. Emma Baker competed in the singles, falling in the round of 32. Jenny Wong also competed, losing in the round of 128 on a 2-6, 6-7 split.
