Two Men's Lacrosse Alumni Named to Halls of Fame

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Men's lacrosse alumni Rob Pannell and Chales Maxwell "Butch" Stainton have each been recently named to US Lacrosse Hall of Fame New York Chapters. Pannell, a 2013 Cornell graduate, is set to be inducted into the Long Island Metropolitan Lacrosse Foundation Hall of Fame, and Stainton, a 1925 graduate will be inducted into the Western New York Lacrosse Hall of Fame.

Pannell, the 27th inductee to the LIMLF Hall of Fame with Cornell ties, is a current attackman for the recently renamed California Redwoods of the Premier Lacrosse League. During his time at Cornell, Pannell ended his career as a Tewaaraton Award winner, a two-time USILA Lt. Raymond Enners Award recipient, a two-time USILA Jack Turnbull Award Recipient, and a three-time first-team All-American. This past summer, Pannell became the all-time leading scorer for Team USA.

Stainton completed his Cornell his career with the Big Red as a three-year starting goalkeeper. The netminder was named a first-team All-American in 1924, and was recognized on the third team in his senior season. Stainton was the first Big Red lacrosse athlete to be named a first-team All-American.

The duo joins Bob Shaw in the list of Cornell athletes inducted in the 2023 classes of the US Lacrosse Hall of Fames. Shaw is set to be inducted to the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame with a ceremony set for Saturday, January 6, 2024. Tickets for that event may be purchased here.
