Penn Defeats Women's Tennis in Finale of ECAC Indoor Championships

LEBANON, N.H. — The Cornell women's tennis team concluded its trio of matches at the ECAC Indoor Championships with a 4-1 loss to Penn at the River Valley Club on Sunday morning.

Junior Lauren Stein posted the lone point for the Big Red, winning her match at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-1 over Eileen Wang.

Stein and freshman Emma Baker posted a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles, but Penn claimed victories in the other two matches to take the first point of the day.

Sabine Rutlauka defeated sophomore Lan Mi, 6-0, 6-1, to give the Quakers a 2-0 lead before Stein trimmed Penn's lead to one.

Maya Urata and Gavriella Smith logged straight-set victories for Penn to solidify the match win for the Quakers.

Singles matches featuring freshmen Sofia Iantosca (No. 5) and Tanya Fan (No. 6) did not complete a first set due to the four-court match setting.

Looking Ahead

Cornell (1-8) will return to action on Friday, Feb. 17, when it hosts the University at Buffalo for a dual match at the Reis Tennis Center. Doubles matches are slated to begin at 3 p.m.
