PRINCETON, N.J. -- Women's swim and dive wrapped up a brief opening night at the 2023 Ivy League Championships with a fifth place finish in the 200 yard Medley Relay and a seventh place finish in the 800 yard Freestyle Relay. The fifth place finish in the 200 is the best finish in the event for Cornell since the 2013-14 season, when the Big Red also took fifth. Cornell sits at 6th place after day one with 96 points.
The 200 yard Medley Relay was swam by
Sophia Tsai,
Audrey Holden,
Emilie Boisrenoult, and
Melissa Parker for a time of 1:40.62, beating the school record by nearly a full second. The 800 yard Freestyle Relay was swam by
Melissa Parker,
Kate Li,
Alex Syrkin, and
Ella Martinez and their time of 7:26.09 ranks for the fourth best time in school history. Parker swam the fastest leg in the 800 with a time of 1:50.07.
Cornell returns to the pool tomorrow to begin prelim competition. Prelims begin at 11 a.m. and finals are set for 6 p.m. The prelim events for tomorrow will be the 50 yard Freestyle, the 200 yard IM, the 500 yard Freestyle, and the 1 meter dive. The teams will also compete in the 200 yard Freestyle relay in the 6 p.m. portion of the day.
