ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell gymnastics team will kick off Super Bowl Sunday when it hosts the Cornell Invitational on Sunday, Feb. 12 at 1 p.m. at Newman Arena. The Big Red will welcome Brockport, Cortland and Ithaca College for the second straight season after placing second a year ago with a 191.600.
The Big Red is coming off a dual meet loss to Penn on Sunday, scoring a 191.025. Cornell scored 48.225 or better on three events, including a season-high 48.900 on floor, but its 45.450 on bars kept it from hitting a season-high team score for the third straight outing. Sophomore
Sydney Beers at 9.900 on floor, all five scoring gymnasts posting a 9.725 or better as the home team outscored the visitors in the event
A year ago at the Cornell Invitational, Cornell posted the meet's top score on vault and floor and
Victoria DeMeo (beam),
Calista Brady (floor) and
Sydney Beers (all-around) each earned individual wins as Cornell finished with a 191.600, second to Brockport (192.425).
The Big Red is averaging 191.106 over its first four meets to rank 62nd nationally, with Brockport (68th, 189.081), Ithaca (75th, 186.669) and Cortland (76th, 186.613) not far behind.
