PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Cornell gymnastics placed fifth at the Gymnastic East Conference Championship in Philadelphia hosted by Penn on Saturday. The Big Red totaled 192.925 over the four apparatuses yielding five top-5 performances.
Penn (195.550) took the crown followed by Yale (194.125), Bridgeport (193.150), William and Mary (192.975), Cornell, Brown (192.875), West Chester (192.275), South Connecticut State (191.175).
Cornell competed in the morning session alongside William and Mary, West Chester and SCSU. Senior Sydney Beers was the only Big Red gymnast to compete in the all-around, earning third overall with a final combined score of 38.150.
BEAM
Cornell opened the championship on the beam with a team score of 48.475. Natalie Tehrani placed the highest for Cornell on the beam with her season-high score of 9.750 to finish tied for ninth. Savannah Kokaly (9.725) and Avery Byun (9.700) each scored well to finish in the top 15. Morgen Shambo (9.650) and Mikayla Burton (9.650) were the other two qualifying scores for Cornell.
FLOOR
The Big Red dominated the floor with two gymnasts tying for second with a score of 9.875. Addy Rothstein and Beers each hit the mark to help contribute the highest rotation total of the day for the Big Red of 48.975. Rothstein set a new career high for the second consecutive week, improving from her 9.850 last week. Beers matched her season high on the floor. Cami Whitaker placed fourth with an 9.825, her second best of the season. Nora Sherman (9.750) and Michaela DeFrancisco (9.650) rounded out the floor scores.
VAULT
Beers tied her season high mark on the vault in the third rotation with a 9.850 to place third overall on the apparatus. Rothstein tied her season-high of 9.700 which she has hit five times this season. Whitaker (9.675), Dahlia Jhaveri (9.625) and DeFrancisco (9.550) added to the team score for the Big Red.
BARS
The Big Red's final rotation came with a score of 47.075 on the bars. With a 9.750, Shambo placed eighth as she tied her season high score on the bars. Jhaveri followed her up with a 9.650 rounded out by Tehrani (9.500), Beers (9.425) and Rothstein (8.725).
