ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's golf team will vie for its first-ever Ivy League Championship when the Big Red hits the links at the Stanwich Club in Greenwich, Conn. from April 21-23. Cornell will play three rounds over three days with the winner earning the conference championship and a berth to the NCAA Championship field, as will the individual medalist.
The top four spots in the lineup have been consistent through all 20 rounds this season, with
Josh Lundmark leading the way with his 72.95 average. In nine events this season, the senior has a pair of four five and four top 10 finishes, with eight rounds at or below par. His season scoring average currently is the third-lowest season mark in school history.
Benjamin Choe (73.70),
Samuel King (74.40) and
Noah Schwartz (76.05) have also made the lineup in every event this season. Both
Weston Warden (76.06) and
Jackson Debusschere (76.81) have played in 16 of 20 rounds this season and one will likely be the fifth golfer in the championship lineup. As a team, the Big Red's 299.15 average enters the Ivy Championship as the fifth-lowest mark in school history.
Though Cornell has never won the Ivy title, it did claim the Eastern Intercollegiate Championship in 1946. The last of the five medalists wearing Big Red colors was Mike Graboyes in 2017. The Big Red's best recent finish was a runner-up spot in 2017. Cornell also placed second in 1980 and 2005.
Last spring at the Century Country Club, the Big Red grabbed seventh with a three-day total of 931. Lundmark led the way with his 22nd-place overall.
