#8 Women's Ice Hockey Prepares For Weekend Ice Battle With #5 Colgate

ITHACA, N.Y. - The no. 8-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team gets set to take on no. 5-ranked Colgate in an ECAC Hockey two-game home and away series this weekend.

Clarkson/St. Lawrence Rewind
Game One
The Cornell women's ice hockey team earned a 3-2 overtime victory over the no. 5-ranked Clarkson Golden Knights. The Big Red moves to 12-3-1 on the year, while the Golden Knights take their first loss of the year.and fall to 18-1-2.

Lily Delianedis registered a pair of goals in the contest, and was joined in the scoring department by her line-partner Izzy DanielRory Guilday, Daniel (two), and Alyssa Regalado registered helpers in the contest. Daniel has now scored at least two points in 14 contests this season.

Game Two
The Cornell women's ice hockey team capped the weekend with a 3-1 victory over the no. 10-ranked St. Lawrence Saints at Lynah Rink on Saturday evening. The Big Red improved to 13-3-1, while the Saints dropped to 13-8-0.

Grace DwyerKarel Prefontaine, and Georgia Schiff registered Big Red goals in the game. Izzy Daniel and Lily Delianedis collected helpers on Prefontaine's goal, while the other two were unassisted. 

The Series
Cornell leads the series with Colgate, 34-8-2. The Big Red and the Raiders split contests last season, each taking the win on their respective home ice.

Opponent Breakdown
Colgate will enter the weekend with a 18-3-1 record overall. The Raiders have won five of their last six and are coming off of a 12-0 victory over upstate New York rival Syracuse.

Kristyna Kaltounkova (42- 18g, 24a), Danielle Serdachny (35- 11g, 24a), Syrdney Morrow (31- 11g, 20a), and Elyssa Biederman (28- 8g, 20a) are at the top of the team's leader board in points. Kayle Osborne has played in 18 games between the pipes, registering 290 saves and a .945 save percentage.

Colgate is the reigning ECAC Hockey champion, and has won the last two conference titles.

Potent Top Line
The line of Izzy DanielKatie Chan, and Lily Delianedis accounts for 78 Big Red points (33 goals, 45 assists) through 17 games this season.

Daniel ranks first in the nation in assists per game with 1.35, sixth in goals per game with .82 per contest, and first in points per game with 2.18. Chan has exploded onto the scene for the Big Red, currently marking 20th in the nation in goals per game with 0.56. Delianedis has been the anchor to those explosive wingers, collecting 190 wins during her face off duties, and lighting the lamp three times during Big Red power-play opportunities.

Rory Guilday - IIHF Rivalry Series
During game one of the 2023 USA vs Canada Rivalry Series, Big Red blue-liner Rory Guilday fired a deep shot which was collected on a rebound and led to the game-winning-goal in the United States 3-1 victory over Canada. The U.S. also took game two over the Canadians, winning by a count of 5-2 in front of a sell out crowd at Crypto.com Arena.

Game three and four of the series were split by the Americans and the Canadians at Kitchener Memorial Auditorium. Team USA claimed game three in OT by a score of 3-2. The Canadians took game four 3-2 in shootouts, which was aided by a clutch Kristin O'Neill assist on the game-tying-goal for Canada.

Goalies By Committee
Annelies Bergmann and Deanna Fraser have both seen action between the pipes this season. Bergmann has started in 13 games, earning 278 saves (high - 28) with a .917 save percentage. Fraser has started four games, earning 63 saves (high - 23) with a .926 save percentage to go along with a shutout victory over Syracuse.

Patty Kaz Watch
Daniel exploded for a six-point weekend in the opener versus no. 13 Penn State, registering her points on one goal and five assists. She eclipsed her 100th-career point in the process of sweeping the Nittany Lions, and has not slowed down since, now having 136. 

Daniel opened the season with a 14-game point-streak, 13 of which the standout Minnesotan scored at least two points. She has earned ECAC Hockey Player of The Week three times this year, as well as ECAC Hockey Player of the Month.

Colgate forwards Kaltounkova and Serdachny are up to their usual explosiveness for the Raiders, etching their names into the conversation as well. In fact, Serdachny was the runner up for the Patty Kaz Award last season.

Cornellians in the PWHL
The Premier Women's Hockey League kicked off its inaugural season this year and is set to feature Cornell alum. Briane Jenner (Ottawa), Kristin O'Neill (Montreal), Jillian Saulnier (New York), Micah Zandee-Hart (New York), Jaime Bourbannais (New York), Marlene Boissonnault (Montreal), and Lauriane Rougeau (Toronto) have earned their way onto active rosters as it currently stands. Jenner and Zandee-Hart were named captains of Ottawa and New York, respectively.

The no. 8-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team will take on no.-5 Colgate this weekend for an ECAC Hockey home and away series at Lynah Rink and Class of 1965 Arena, respectively. Puck drop is slated for 6:00 p.m. on Friday, and 3;00 p.m. on Saturday. Game action will be broadcast on ESPN+.
