Cornell Defeats the Central New York Polo Club 12-4

ITHACA, N.Y. — The Cornell women's polo team defeated the Central New York Polo Club 12-4 in its home opener on Friday night.

Fifth year Isabelle Braden led the charge for the Big Red in scoring as she notched five goals in the game. Freshman Naomi Marlough followed closely behind with four goals and Lara Chong had two goals on the night.

"The starters have really committed to communicating with each other on the field, and It has shown in the early part of this season," said Peter B. Orthwein `68 Head Coach of Polo, Anthony Condo Jr. " We do have our work cut out for us, but I really enjoyed watching tonight's game as we prepare for the long season ahead. This was a great game at home as we prepare for our first tournament of the season down in Virginia next week."

FIRST CHUCKER

  • Naomi Marlough opened the scoring for Cornell.

  • Lara Chong notched the second goal of the game for the Big Red.

  • After another Cornell goal in the pony goal and penalty section, Marlough scored once again to put the Big Red up 4-0 at the end of the first chucker.

SECOND CHUCKER

  • Jasmine Umigar began the second chucker with a goal for CNY, but Cornell then answered with three goals of their own.

  • Isabelle Braden scored her first of the game.

  • Marlough scored her third goal of the game to end the second chucker with a score of 7-1.

THIRD CHUCKER

  • The third chucker began with two back to back goals from CNY's Umigar.

  • Chong and Marlough each scored a goal to even out the chucker and maintain Cornell's lead 9-3.

FOURTH CHUCKER

  • The fourth chucker was a story of Braden as she scored three goals.

  • Alyssa Manns scored one for CNY in the fourth chucker but it wasn't enough as Cornell claimed a 12-4 victory.

Coming up next for the Big Red is the Virginia Fall invitational which starts for the team on Friday, Oct. 25 at 6:00 p.m. against Texas A&M.
