ITHACA, N.Y. - The Cornell women's swimming and diving team hosted a two-day dual meet at Teagle Pool against Ivy League foes Harvard and Dartmouth. The Big Red fell to Dartmouth 141-159. The Harvard Crimson defeated the Big Red 176.5-123.5.
Patrick Galagher, the Philip H. Bartels '71 Head Coach of Women's Swimming, was not satisfied with the result of the dual-meet, and credited Harvard and Dartmouth for their efforts. "This meet was a tough pill to swallow. We swam as expected, even a little better in places and still ended up on the wrong end of both meets. That's a credit to Dartmouth and Harvard. I don't think this is an easy place to swim as the away team and they were very good. The atmosphere was awesome and the team raced well and competed through the last relay", Gallagher mentioned.
Kate Li (first - 1:49.77), Erin Dehollander (second - 1:49.83), and
Jungmin Yoon (third -Â 1:50.96) willed the Big Red to the top three spots in the 200 freestyle. In the 200 butterfly, Katie Yee (first - 2:03.29) and
Sophia Sim (second - 2:04.24) owned the top two positions on the leader board.
Audrey Holden (first - 54.54 seconds)Â claimed first-place in the 100 yard breaststroke.
Galagher mentioned the historic performances of Springer, Dehollander, and Yoon, and eluded to an expectation for those athletes to continue improvement as the year season advances. "Rosalee swam the fourth fastest time in school history in the 200 backstroke. Erin Dehollander was the sixth fastest in the 200 free and Hojung was ninth fastest in the 100 backstroke. That's a pretty good place to be at this point in November", he concluded with.
