HAMDEN, Conn. - The Cornell women's ice hockey team played to a 3-3 tie against the no. 7-ranked Quinnipiac Bobcats on Friday night at M&T Bank Arena. Both teams keep their six-game unbeated streaks, as the Big Red moved to 6-3-2 and the Bobcats became 11-3-2.
Alyssa Regalado,
Rory Guilday, and
Avi Adam registered Big Red goals in the game.
Gabbie Rud collected three assists, and
Mckenna Van Gelder dealt one.
Piper Grober and
Karel Prefontaine scored during the shootout period.Â
Regalado opened up the scoring when she registered her first goal of the season. Quinnipiac preceded with a fierce response, rattling off three unanswered goals.
Makayla Watson scored the first for the Bobcats. Kahlen Lamarche found the back of the net on the power-play to close out the first period. Bryn Prier scored another one for Quinnipiac to extend the lead to 3-1.
Guilday netted the puck to cut the Cornell deficit to one. Rud, who also dealt Guilday's goal, found Adam who finished off the equalizer. Guilday and Lamarche were given matching minors creating a 4 on 4 hockey session as regulation closed out. Netiher team found the go-ahead-goal, sending the game to overtime.
The Bobcats were booked for too many skaters on the ice, leading to a Cornell power-play to begin the extra stanza. Quinnipiac killed-off that opportunity. Cornell was then tasked with killing-off a power-play of its own at the end of overtime to send the game into shootouts.
Grober and Prefontaine scored, while
Annelies Bergmann stopped two of Quinnipiac's chances to give the Big Red the victory in the shootout. Bergman collected 26 saves in the game, and moved to 6-3-2 on the season.
