Ivy Title In Sight For #6 Big Red As It Visits Brown, #14 Yale

ITHACA, N.Y. - The no. 6-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team will travel to Brown and the no. 14-ranked Yale Bulldogs with their sights set on an Ivy League title.

vs RPI
The no. 6-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team defeated Rensselaer 1-0 in overtime on Friday night at Lynah Rink. The Big Red improved to 19-6-1, while the Engineers fell to 13-15-3.

Lily Delianedis registered the Big Red goal in the overtime period. Karel Prefontaine and Rory Guilday assisted the Cornell game-winning goal. Annelies Bergmann collected 19 saves and her third shutout of the season.

vs Union
The no. 6-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team defeated the Union Garnet Chargers 3-1 at Lynah Rink on Saturday evening. The Big Red clinched a first-round bye and home-ice for the quarterfinals of the ECAC Hockey tournament.

Grace DwyerKaitlin Jockims, and Mckenna Van Gelder scored the Big Red goals in the contest. Van Gelder, Georgia Schiff (two), and Ashley Messier collected helpers. Deanna Fraser registered 13 saves on the evening.

The Series
The Big Red leads the series with Brown, 57-35-10. Cornell took the first game earlier in the year against Brown at Lynah Rink, 5-1.

Cornell leads the series with Yale, 64-16-3. The Big Red earned a 6-1 victory earlier in the year at Lynah Rink.

Opponents Breakdown
Brown will enter the weekend with a 13-14-3 record overall. The Bears are coming off a win and a tie last weekend against Dartmouth and Harvard, respectively.

Jade Iginla (26- 16g, 10a), India McDadi (23- 9g, 14a), Sam Braz (15- 6g, 9a), and Ava DeCoste (14- 4g, 10a) are at the top of the team's leader board in points. Kayle Doyle has played in 24 games between the pipes, registering 636 saves and a .930 save percentage.

Yale will enter the weekend with a 14-12-1 record overall. The Bulldogs are coming off of a sweep over Harvard and Dartmouth.

Elle Hartje (33- 10g, 23a), Jordan Ray (19- 10g, 9a), Carina D'Antonio (18- 8g, 10a), and Anna Bargman (16- 9g, 7a) are at the top of the team's leader board in points. Pia Dukaric has played in 26 games between the pipes, registering 475 saves and a .917 save percentage.

Ivy League Title Clinching Scenario
Cornell and Yale sit atop the Ivy League standings and are the only two teams left in Ivy League title contention. The winner of Saturday's contest between the Big Red and the Bulldogs will decide a champion of the Ivy League.

High-Octane Big Red
Daniel ranks second in the nation in assists per game with 1.19, eighth in goals per game with .70 per contest, and second in points per game with 1.89. Since joining the top-line as left-wing in place of sidelined skater Chan, first-year forward Karel Prefontaine has registered a handful of points of her own, increasing her total to 20 points on nine goals and 11 assists. Delianedis has been the anchor to those explosive wingers, collecting 274 wins during her faceoff duties, and lighting the lamp four times during Big Red power-play opportunities.

Kaitlin Jockims has emerged as an X-Factor for the Big Red, scoring 12 goals on the season along with eight assists. Jockims is netting the puck with precision, boasting a 30% shot percentage. She is responsible for three short-handed goals on the year, and has four game-winning goals which is tied for first on the team with Delianedis.

Goalies By Committee
Annelies Bergmann has played in 22 games, earning 482 saves (high - 43, one shutout) with a .923 save percentage. Deanna Fraser has started six games, earning 84 saves (high - 23) with a .903 save percentage to go along with a shutout victory over Syracuse.

IIHF Rivalry Series
During game one of the 2023 USA vs Canada Rivalry Series, Big Red blue-liner Rory Guilday fired a deep shot which was collected on a rebound and led to the game-winning-goal in the United States 3-1 victory over Canada. The U.S. also took game two over the Canadians, winning by a count of 5-2 in front of a sell out crowd at Crypto.com Arena.

Game three and four of the series were split by the Americans and the Canadians at Kitchener Memorial Auditorium. Team USA claimed game three in OT by a score of 3-2. The Canadians took game four 3-2 in shootouts, which was aided by a clutch Kristin O'Neill assist on the game-tying-goal for Canada.

Canada would storm back in the series and complete the reverse sweep over the Americans, winning game seven of the Rivalry Series 6-1 with help from Cornellian point-scorers Brianne Jenner and Micah Zandee-Hart.

Patty Kaz Watch
Daniel exploded for a six-point weekend in the opener versus no. 13 Penn State, registering her points on one goal and five assists. She eclipsed her 100th-career point in the process of sweeping the Nittany Lions, and has not slowed down since, now having 150.

Daniel has scored at least one point in 21 out of 25 games this year, and two or more points in 18 games. She has earned ECAC Hockey Player of The Week three times this year, as well as ECAC Hockey Player of the Month.

Cornellians in the PWHL
The Premier Women's Hockey League kicked off its inaugural season on New Years 2024. Briane Jenner (Ottawa), Kristin O'Neill (Montreal), Jillian Saulnier (New York), Micah Zandee-Hart (New York), Jaime Bourbannais (New York), Marlene Boissonnault (Montreal), and Lauriane Rougeau (Toronto) have earned their way onto active rosters. Jenner and Zandee-Hart were named captains of Ottawa and New York, respectively.
