Big Red Sets Two School Records at Day One of Ivy League Women's Swim/Dive Championships

2/21/2024 8:35:00 PM

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's swimming and diving record book already saw some shuffling after day one of the 2024 Ivy League Championships, as two more all-time bests happened Wednesday night from the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center.

Cornell's first record swim came in the 200 medley relay, as Ming Xu, Amy Wu, Emilie Boisrenoult, and Priscilla Wongso combined for a 1:40.30 to finish fifth overall and grab 50 points for the Big Red in the first event of the night. The time was secured by a strong swim by Wongso, who swam a team-best 22.46 split as the last swimmer in the pool for the Big Red to break the previous record set by the quartet (1:40.55) in Cornell's final Ivy League meet of the regular season against Brown at Teagle Pool.

The Big Red were not finished rewriting history in the relay events, following that up with a new program record in the 800 freestyle with Kate Li, Jungmin Yoon, Allie Danko, and Erin DeHollander shattering the previous record set at the 2020 Championships, shaving over three seconds off that time to earn a 7:17.95. That time was good for sixth overall on the final leaderboard.

Heading into day two on Thursday, Cornell finds itself in a tie for fifth with Columbia at 96 points. Tomorrow's action will begin at 11:00 a.m. with qualifying races in the 500 and 50 freestyles, the 200 IM, and preliminary dives for the 1-meter portion.
