#6 Big Red Hosts RPI, Union For Senior Weekend

ITHACA, N.Y. - The no. 6-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team will host RPI and Union this weekend at Lynah Rink for Senior Weekend.

St. Lawrence/Clarkson Rewind
vs St. Lawrence
The no. 6-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team fell to the no. 8-ranked St. Lawrence Saints 2-1 at Appleton Arena on Friday night. The Big Red dropped to 17-6-1, while the Saints improved to 20-9-0.

Avi Adam scored the lone Big Red goal of the contest. Claudia Yu and Gabbie Rud were credited with helpers on that goal.

vs Clarkson
The no. 6-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team took down the no. 4-ranked Clarkson Golden Knights 3-0 at Cheel Arena on Saturday evening. The Big Red improved to 18-6-1, while the Golden Knights dropped their first home game of the year, and move to 25-3-2.

Kaitlin Jockims, Izzy Daniel, and Karel Prefontaine registered Big Red goals in the contest. Georgia Schiff, Ashley Messier, and Grace Dwyer logged helpers in the game. Annelies Bergmann collected 43 saves and her second shutout of the season.

The Series
The Big Red leads the series with RPI, 31-8-0. Cornell took the first game earlier in the year against RPI at Houston Field House, 2-1.

Cornell leads the series with Union, 35-1-3. The Big Red earned a 4-2 victory earlier in the year at Messa Rink.

Opponents Breakdown
RPI will enter the weekend with a 13-14-3 record overall. The Engineers are coming off a sweep last weekend against no. 14 -ranked Yale and Brown.

Marah Wagner (20- 5g, 15a), Ellie Kaser (19- 10g, 9a), Andrea Trnkova (19- 5g, 14a), and Aylah Cioffi (15- 8g, 7a) are at the top of the team's leader board in points. Amanda Rampado has played in 27 games between the pipes, registering 705 saves and a .924 save percentage.

Union will enter the weekend with a 8-20-2 record overall. The Garnet Chargers have dropped eight games in a row.

Riley Walsh (24- 10g, 14a), Maddie Leaney (17- 10g, 7a), Emily King (16- 4g, 12a), and Stephanie Bourque (11- 4g, 7a) are at the top of the team's leader board in points. Sophie Matsoukas has played in 26 games between the pipes, registering 652 saves and a .901 save percentage.

High-Octane Big Red
Izzy DanielKatie Chan, and Lily Delianedis accounts for 88 Big Red points (41 goals, 57 assists) through the 25 games of the season. 

Daniel ranks first in the nation in assists per game with 1.35, seventh in goals per game with .78 per contest, and first in points per game with 2.13. Since joining the top-line as left-wing in place of sidelined skater Chan, first-year forward Karel Prefontaine has registered a handful of points of her own, increasing her total to 18 points on eight goals and 10 assists. Delianedis has been the anchor to those explosive wingers, collecting 274 wins during her faceoff duties, and lighting the lamp four times during Big Red power-play opportunities.

Kaitlin Jockims has emerged as an X-Factor for the Big Red, scoring 11 goals on the season along with eight assists. Jockims is netting the puck with precision, boasting a 32% shot percentage. She is responsible for three short-handed goals on the year, and has three game-winning goals which is second on the team behind Delianedis.

Goalies By Committee
Annelies Bergmann has played in 21 games, earning 463 saves (high - 43, one shutout) with a .920 save percentage. Deanna Fraser has started five games, earning 71 saves (high - 23) with a .899 save percentage to go along with a shutout victory over Syracuse.

Rory Guilday - IIHF Rivalry Series
During game one of the 2023 USA vs Canada Rivalry Series, Big Red blue-liner Rory Guilday fired a deep shot which was collected on a rebound and led to the game-winning-goal in the United States 3-1 victory over Canada. The U.S. also took game two over the Canadians, winning by a count of 5-2 in front of a sell out crowd at Crypto.com Arena.

Game three and four of the series were split by the Americans and the Canadians at Kitchener Memorial Auditorium. Team USA claimed game three in OT by a score of 3-2. The Canadians took game four 3-2 in shootouts, which was aided by a clutch Kristin O'Neill assist on the game-tying-goal for Canada.

Patty Kaz Watch
Daniel exploded for a six-point weekend in the opener versus no. 13 Penn State, registering her points on one goal and five assists. She eclipsed her 100th-career point in the process of sweeping the Nittany Lions, and has not slowed down since, now having 150. 

Daniel has scored at least one point in 21 out of 25 games this year, and two or more points in 18 games. She has earned ECAC Hockey Player of The Week three times this year, as well as ECAC Hockey Player of the Month.

Cornellians in the PWHL
The Premier Women's Hockey League kicked off its inaugural season on New Years 2024. Briane Jenner (Ottawa), Kristin O'Neill (Montreal), Jillian Saulnier (New York), Micah Zandee-Hart (New York), Jaime Bourbannais (New York), Marlene Boissonnault (Montreal), and Lauriane Rougeau (Toronto) have earned their way onto active rosters. Jenner and Zandee-Hart were named captains of Ottawa and New York, respectively.

The no. 6-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team will host RPI and Union this weekend in an ECAC Hockey series at Lynah Rink. Puck drop is slated for 6:00 p.m. on Friday, and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Game action will be broadcast on ESPN+.
