PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Sydney Beers took home the floor and all-around titles on Saturday from Jersey Mike's Arena as the Cornell gymnastics team earned second overall at the Rutgers March Quad Meet. The host Scarlet Knights earned the top spot (195.325), followed by the Big Red (193.975), West Chester (190.700), and Ursinus College (189.725).Â
The Big Red's top event came on floor with a 49.125. Beers took home the individual championship, nailing her routine with a 9.875 to lead the Big Red. The junior was not the only one with a score north of 9.800, as Alexandra Quiana, Josie Moylan, and Caitlyn Walsh each hit a 9.825 to earn a four-way tie for third overall with Rutgers' Harmony Webster. Avery Byun put together the other qualifying score (9.725) to finish in a tie for 11th. That score is also a season-best for the Big Red, scoring higher than its 48.950 performance in a quad against Bridgeport, Penn, and William & Mary.
Cornell's second score of 48.000 in the quad came on vault, securing a 48.700. Sophomore Cami Whitaker impressed the most out of the six gymnasts who competed for the Big Red, landing a 9.850 to grab a tie for second with Gabrielle Dildy from Rutgers. That score was also a season-best for Whitaker, besting her previous high (9.750) set most recently at the 2024 Ivy Classic. Beers was next in line for the red and white, scoring a 9.775 as the final Big Red gymnast to compete in the event. That score put her in a three-way tie for sixth with two gymnasts from the Scarlet Knights. Byun and Addy Rothstein earned the final top ten finishes in the individual standings, landing a 9.700 to tie for tenth. Michaela DeFrancisco secured the last qualifying score (9.675), putting her in a tie for 13th with West Chester's Kristina Rodriquez.
The Big Red followed up that 48.700 on vault with a 48.200 on beam. Senior captain Regina Walton earned her highest score since besting the program record at the Empire State Collegiate Championships with 9.800 to earn bronze. Mikayla Burton followed behind the senior, nabbing her seventh score this season higher than 9.700 with a 9.750. That performance put her in a tie for fifth with Ursinus' Madison Zimmerman and West Chester's Caroline Cascadden on the individual leaderboard. Beers finished in a tie for eighth overall as the fifth gymnast in the rotation (9.700), followed by senior Alexandra Quiana (9.650 -T12th) and freshman Natalia Tehrani (9.275 -T19th).
Rounding out the team scoring for the Big Red came with a 47.950 on uneven bars. Sophomore Morgen Shambo showed the way for the third time this season (9.675) to earn seventh. Tehrani finished behind her underclassmen counterpart (9.625), while Beers, Moylan, and Rothstein scored identical 9.550s to tie for 11th overall. Melanie Stone also competed for the Big Red, scoring a 9.500 as the non-qualifying score.
Beers also earned the all-around title over West Chester's Kristina Rodriguez, securing a 38.925.
Cornell's 193.975 team score makes it the third time this season Cornell has put together a four-rotation score higher than 193.000.
