ITHACA, N.Y. — The Cornell men's heavyweight rowing team protected its home waters on the Cayuga Inlet on a picturesque Friday afternoon, sweeping a trio of races against visiting Oregon State.
Cornell has swept Oregon State in its last four meetings, which have come in Las Vegas (2019), Philadelphia (2023), and Ithaca (2022 and 2024).
In addition to the races between the Big Red and Beavers, crews from Penn and Holy Cross squared off on the Cayuga Inlet with the Quakers prevailing in all three races. The quartet of programs rowed with 8-10 mph tailwinds and no chop on the water.
Cornell's third varsity eight posted the first of the Big Red's three victories on the day behind a time of 5:54.5, edging the Beavers' crew by three seconds.
The Big Red's JV crew registered the largest margin of victory on the day, crossing the finish line at the 5:47.5 mark, 10.5 seconds ahead of Oregon State (5:58.0).
In the final race of the day, Cornell's varsity crew posted the fastest time of all four crews on the day, posting a clip of 5:41.2, winning by 3.3 seconds.
