Jeff Teat '21 Sets New PLL Single-Season Point Record

7/20/2024 5:12:00 PM

ITHACA, N.Y. -- History has been made in the world of professional lacrosse, and a former Big Red athlete once again did it. Jeff Teat '21 has broken the single-season Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) point record with his first assist of the day, just 1:52 into the second quarter of the game against the Boston Cannons. Each subsequent point for the rest of the season will rewrite the record. In addition to the point record, Teat also now owns the PLL assist record, putting up 26 assists through seven games.

The point record, previously set at 44 by Lyle Thompson in nine games in the 2022 season and matched by Marcus Holman in 10 games during the 2023 season, was hit by Teat after just seven games. The attackman previously shared the assist title with Dhane Smith, when they each tallied 25 assists in the 2023 season.

With three games left in the season, Teat is nearing the PLL's scoring-point record. The current record sits at 31 points, set by Marcus Holman in 2023. He has 20 points off of goals so far in 2024.

Professional lacrosse's all-time single-season leading point scorer is none other than Rob Pannell '13. The former Big Red set the record in the 2018 season of the Major League Lacrosse (MLL), putting away 43 one-point goals and 35 assists for 78 points. Two other MLL players hold the all-time records for single-season scoring points and assists. Jesse Hubbard tallied 58 scoring points in 2002, while Spencer Ford posted 50 assists in 2007. All three hit these numbers in seasons with 13 or more games. Teat is averaging 6.6 points per game 2.9 scoring points per game, and 3.7 assists per game so far this season. With three games left on the schedule plus a potential post-season bid, the fourth-year Bull may still yet near each one of these records.

Teat and the Atlas are back in action Sunday, July 27 at 3 p.m. to take on the Philadelphia Waterdogs in San Diego, Calif. The game will be broadcast nationally on ABC and available to stream on ESPN+.
