ITHACA, N.Y. - The no. 6-ranked Cornell women's ice hockey team defeated the no. 10-ranked Quinnipiac Bobcats 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at Lynah Rink. The Big Red improved to 14-4-3, while the Bobcats dropped to 15-8-3.
Lily Delianedis,
Grace Dwyer,
Katie Chan, and
Avi Adam (empty-net) registered Big Red goals in the game.
Karel Prefontaine,
Delaney Fleming, Chan,
Lindzi Avar,
Kaitlin Jockims,
Alyssa Regalado, and
Mckenna Van Gelder were credited with assists.
Annelies Bergmann claimed 33 saves in the game.
The Big Red got on the board 24 seconds into the opening period when Delianedis found the back of the net on a setup from Prefontaine. Five minutes later, Quinnipiac responded to even the game up at 1-1. Dwyer put Cornell back ahead with a shot from the blue-line that was dished by Chan.
The second period was a defensive battle. The Bobcats were given a power-play opportunity due to a slashing-infraction by
Rory Guilday. Bergmann and the Big Red penalty-kill stood tall, not allowing Quinnipiac to score an equalizer. The Bobcats held the shots-on-goal advantage for the second period 16-4. Although 28 shots were taken between the two squads, they held each other scoreless in the second stanza.
Regalado found Jockims skating down open-ice, and Jockims dished a pass to Chan who would make it count as she maneuvered around the Bobcat-netminder to extend the lead tot 3-1. Down a pair of goals late, the Bobcats pulled their goaltender to skate 6-on-5, but after three minutes if generating chances it would back-fire as Adam secured the empty-net tally.
