STREAKS, STORYLINES & SIDEBARS 

  • Cornell women's basketball is 4-13 on the season and 0-4 in Ivy League play after dropping two Ivy League games this past weekend to Penn and Brown. 
  • Tipoff against the Big Red's next Ivy opponent, Princeton, is set for Saturday, Jan. 25 at 1:00 p.m. in Newman Arena. The game will be streamed on ESPN+. 
  • Cornell is currently 2-4 overall at home this season with its last home win being back on November 27 in an overtime one-point win over Mercyhurst. 
  • The Big Red welcomed a new Rebecca Quinn Morgan ‘60 Head Coach of Women’s Basketball this season in Emily Garner. Garner came from Trinity College where she served as the head coach since 2016. Garner picked up her first win at the helm of the program against Army on Monday, Nov. 4.  
  • Cornell was selected seventh in the Ivy League preseason media poll. The Big Red is currently in eighth as of Jan. 21, 2025. 
  • Cornell finished 7-19 in the 2023-24 season, ending at seventh in the Ancient Eight. 
  • Emily Pape leads Cornell in points per game with 11.7, steals per game with 1.1 and rebounds per game with 6.5. Summer ParkerHall leads the team in total blocks with 11. Clarke Jackson leads in assists per game with 2.1.

• Four major conference award winners in the conference, including three different           Defensive Players of the Year, as well as a two-time All-American.

GAME STORY I BOX SCORE 

  • Turnovers would prove to be the difference maker in a close contest for Cornell as they lost 49-39 to Brown despite four lead changes throughout the game on Monday afternoon. The Big Red had 19 turnovers throughout the game, while the Bears had 11. 
  • Brown capitalized on Cornell's turnovers by recording 15 steals and 15 points off of turnovers to Cornell's three steals and nine points off turnovers. Alyssa Moreland led the bears in steals with six. The Big Red's steals came one apiece from Summer Parker-Hall, Rachel Kaus and Clarke Jackson. 
  • In the loss, Paige Engels had another double-digit day, leading Cornell in points with 10 and set her career-high leading the team in rebounds with eight. Engels also recorded two assists. • Parker-Hall and Kaus each had nine points on the afternoon, Jackson had eight and Kelsey Langston notched three. The Bears were led by Isabella Mauricio who scored 18 and notched her 1,000th career point on her last basket of the game. • Cornell out-rebounded Brown 35-27 in the match-up. Alongside Engel's eight, Parker-Hall and Kaus each had five rebounds, Emily Pape, Jackson and Langston each had two and Vivienne knee notched one. The Bears were led in rebounds by Alyssa Moreland who recorded seven. 
  • The Big Red trailed the Bears in assists 10-9. Cornell was led by Langsto who had three assists. Engels and Parker-Hall made two assists each and Kaus and Jackson notched one apiece. The Bears were led in assists by Grace Arnolie who had four. 
  • Brown out-shot Cornell from the field and from three as the Bears shot 35.4 percent from the field and 35.4 percent from three and the Big Red shot 34.1 percent from the field and 25 percent from three. The Big Red out-shot Brown from the free-throw line shooting 85.7 percent to 66.7 percent. 
  • The game proved to be a physical contest from the jump and resulted in 25 personal fouls across both teams. The first quarter began with Brown going on a six-point run. Clarke Jackson was able to break up the run with a jump shot that began a back-and-forth battle with two lead changes that resulted in a 14-11 lead for the Big Red at the end of the first quarter. 
  • The second quarter began with Mauricio hitting a three to tie the game at 14. Langston hit a three and Kaus followed with a jumper to put Cornell up 19-14, but Brown took to an offensive stride and scored eight unanswered points to take the lead 22-19 at the half. 
  • The Bears were able to maintain their lead throughout the third quarter until Cornell went on a nine-point run to go up 29-27. A layup from Jackson with one minute left in the quarter would allow Cornell to keep a 31-29 lead heading into the final quarter of play. 
  • The Bears came into the fourth quarter swinging as they went on a seven point run to take a 36-31 lead two minutes in. While Cornell continued to battle through and fight for points, it wouldn't be enough to overcome the deficit as Brown would win 49-39.
