ITHACA, N.Y. -- The reigning 2025 USPA Division II National Champion Cornell women's polo team enters the 2025-26 season with a great potential as it prepares to jump back into Division I play. The season begins with a visit from Marlan Farm on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. at the John T. Oxley Equestrian Center.
Under
Anthony Condo Jr., the Peter B. Orthwein `68 Head Coach of Polo, the Big Red have reestablished themselves as a national force, pairing strong leadership with an influx of new talent.
"Winning the Division II title last year was a huge moment for this team," Condo said. "It validated the hard work we've put in to rebuild the program and it gives us a platform to push forward into Division I."
The team will again look to senior leader
Lara Chong, who has been the steady presence around which the Big Red have built their recent successes. Chong's composure and competitiveness have paved the way for a new generation of players, including sophomore
Naomi Marlough and standout freshmen
Eva Scott and
Samantha Iahn, who are expected to challenge for key lineup roles. Key returning players also looking to move their way up to the starting ranks includes Juniors
Julia Leary,
Aloyse Maille and Grace Reid.
"Lara has been the cornerstone of this team, and she continues to lead this team with unapologetic resilience. But, what also excites the coaching staff a great deal going into this season is the amazing energy and promise that our young players bring," Condo said. "As has been the case since she first stepped through the door,
Naomi Marlough continues to be a physical offensive and defensive presence for us. Sammi and Eva have been impressive already at this early stage in their collegiate careers, and we're eager to see how they continue to grow throughout this season and beyond."
Cornell's fall schedule features the UVA Invitational and the Fall William S. Field Invitational Tournament, both high-level events that will serve as early measuring sticks against some of the nation's best programs. For Condo, the focus is on continuing to elevate the standard.
"We've rebuilt the right way - through commitment, culture, and communication," he said. "It's been a continued work in progress. Now, we get to see how far it takes us at the highest level of the sport."
With championship experience, a blend of veteran leadership and emerging talent as well as a legacy of excellence to uphold, the Big Red women are poised to carry their 2025 national title energy into a new era - and they are ready for yet another championship run.
