ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell women's polo team tuned up for the Field Invitational with a 27-11 triumph over Maryland on Saturday evening at Oxley Equestrian Center. The Big Red upped its record to 5-2 on the season.
Larah Chong outscored Maryland on her own with 12 goals, including six in the decisive second chukker, with
Naomi Marlough adding 10. Sammi Iahn scored five goals in the victory for Cornell. Gabriella Chiasera scored eight of Maryland's 11 goals.
"Another great showing for our women against a solid University of Maryland squad tonight," said Anthony Condor Jr., the Peter B. Orthwein `68 Head Coach of Polo. "Our starters provided a really balanced offensive attack, and they put on an absolute clinic in the use of the walls to their advantage. When this team plays with poise and asserts themselves like I know they can, great things will continue to happen for them. We're looking forward to a solid showing at the 2025 William S. Field Invitational at home this week."
The Big Red trailed 4-3 in the second chukker before a 9-0 run to end the half, extended out to 15-0 in the second half, turned the game around. Cornell led 21-7 after three chukkers and was never threatened in the fourth.
Cornell will open the Field Invitational against Kentucky on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. at Oxley Equestrian Center.
